History & Building | Makom

Our Community Gathering Rooms

How awesome is this place! This is none other than a Beit Elohim!

(Gen . 28:17)

Transforming our building from stone and steel into a makom, a sacred space.

About Our Community Gathering Rooms

Our sense of peoplehood comes in part from knowing that Jews throughout time and geography have shared the same holidays and rituals. In our community gathering spaces, we mark life cycle events, learn together, share stories, and celebrate holidays and shehechiyanu moments, both personal and communal, that connect us to Jews around the globe and throughout time.

In our community gathering spaces, the abundant windows enhance our experience in the natural beauty of our setting. The openness of our design and our many interior windows creates transparency, inviting you to see and experience new possibilities; to join in and engage in something new with us.

Yoga at TBE

Our downward dogs and warrior poses become sanctified as we look out at the wetlands next to the temple or hear the laughter of the preschool children next door.

The Power of Sisterhood@TBE

Our mission is to engage TBE women of all ages in building community — making connections, fostering new friendships, and nurturing existing ones.

Crafting TBE's Chuppah

Creating and designing the chuppah was a fulfilling experience for us as we worked and chatted our way to completing the communal chuppah for the temple.

Kabbalat Hakol & Pride Month

Since I began my role as Student Intern, I have always wanted to give LGBTQ+ activism and conversation a home.

Reading Our Community Gathering Spaces

Reflect on the Jewish text that inspired the design of our community gathering spaces and how we live our values here.

Don’t separate yourself from the community.

—Pirke Avot 2:4
