COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT | REPAIR THE WORLD | SOCIAL ACTION
Climate Action/TBE Green
Ensure our building and community are environmentally sound and sustainable.
We believe it is ethically imperative for Jews to work toward lessening our environmental impact and thus uphold the Jewish ideals of tikkun olam (repairing the world), tzedek (justice), and bal tashchit (prohibition against wanton destruction).
The TBE Green Committee seeks to:
- Encourage integrating these values into the operations of our building.
- Educate our community about ways to integrate these values into their daily lives.
- Encourage working with broader outside communities in both education and
advocacy for sustainability.
Join us and help TBE become the first synagogue to achieve the Paris Agreement goals of a 50% carbon emission reduction by 2030 and carbon neutrality by 2050.
News & Updates
Addressing the climate crisis aligns very strongly with TBE’s values and I hope that as a community we can do more to save our environment.
Along with a dozen TBE members, I came away with inspiration and practical knowledge from the 2019 Jewish Climate Change Conference.
On an Earth Day project, we collected over a dozen large bags of garbage from the shore of the Charles River.
Sustainability & Our Building
Our Beit Elohim was designed to be environmentally friendly.
The Green Team work closely with our staff to maintain the building as efficiently
as possible in terms of energy use, supplies purchased, recycling,
and grounds maintenance.
