Music Club: Jewish Writers of The Great American Songbook (Hybrid)

Join Cantors Jodi Sufrin, Roy Einhorn, Shanna Zell, Josh Rosenberg and accompanist Mark Feldhusen in a program honoring the Jewish Composers of the Great American Songbook.

In the words of Irving Berlin, “Songs make history and history makes songs.“

  • Why were there so many Jewish songwriters?
  • Did their Jewish backgrounds influence their writing?
  • Is there a discernible “Jewish” flavor in songs composed by Jews?
  • How did the alliance between Blacks and Jews influence popular song?
  • Why are so many Christmas songs composed by Jews?
  • What are the difficult topics that Jewish songwriters tackled?

This incredible music program unites music lovers to learn more about music we know, to be introduced to new music, and to enjoy the community of friends with similar musical interests. Prior to each meeting we listen to one or more works of a composer or performer and read about that composer or genre of music. Come join us!

Dates: September 18, October 28 (Monday), November 20, December 18, January 22, February 19, March 19, April 23, May 21
