Throughout this time of social distancing, I’ve been continuing to volunteer at Community Servings with my mom. Community Servings provides individualized meals to people who are critically or chronically ill. While I am there my mom and I help package items such as full meals which could include chicken and spinach risotto with carrots or we could be packaging something like squash soup.
Community Servings has worked to keep volunteering as safe as possible. They have limited the number of volunteers, everyone is wearing a mask, you must take your temperature when you arrive, and the jobs are more spread out throughout the facility.
For me, it is super important to keep volunteering there for two reasons. One: every time I go, we assemble about 1000 meals and they rely heavily on volunteers and they have less volunteers now. Two: the patients and their families rely on these meals especially now because their illnesses still exist but they might not be able to go to the hospital for treatments.
