People of the Book: Learning and Creative Lab (Summer Institute | In Person)
In this week of Summer Institute, explore the Jewish People’s relationship with books with Tamar Forman and Emma Levinson. We’ll discuss the books that influenced and perhaps even changed our lives. We’ll study the biblical story from the book of Kings which describes finding a volume of the Torah some commentators believe was handwritten by Moses. We’ll explore why certain ‘controversial’ books caused heated debate among the Rabbis’ nearly 2,000 years ago as they debated which books to include in the biblical canon, and which books would stay out.
Schedule:
- Text Study 11:00 am–12:00 pm
- Creative Lab 12:00–2:30 pm
This event is a part of Summer Institute 2025: Weaving Study, Making, and Meaning, a month of curated experiences, including learning, practice, and connection opportunities.
