What can I learn from my story? I learn things again that I already know but that bears repeating!
I learn that I am so very blessed to have a close family, close in terms of the nature of my relationships, and close in proximity. My daughter and son-in-law think I’m such a generous person to give them so much; I feel so very lucky that they give me their son to nurture and love and watch as he grows. I spent countless hours taking care of my uncle, supporting him in his decisions as he cared for my aunt, his beloved wife in her final weeks and days on earth; my children took charge of orchestrating an incredibly beautiful and meaningful shiva on Zoom.
And I learn, yet again, having already lost my parents and my husband, that
‘Tis a fearful thing
to love what death can touch…..
‘Tis a human thing, love,
a holy thing, to love what death has touched.
And I hold my beautiful 6 month old grandson tight.
