Prayer in Translation (In Person)

  • Friday, February 6, 2026
  • 5:00 PM to 5:50 PM
  • Join us in person
  • Program Leader: Dr. Chris Doty-Dunn

Join Dr. Chris Doty-Dunn on the first Friday of each month as we journey into the prayers of the Kabbalat Shabbat liturgy. Using the original Hebrew as our guide—no prior knowledge required!—we’ll reflect on what it means to translate sacred words, and how different translations can open new pathways to connection, wisdom, and understanding.

Together, we’ll compare renderings of this sixteenth-century poem across Reform, Conservative, and Orthodox traditions. Along the way, we’ll uncover hidden layers of meaning, deepen our sense of tradition, and discover how the words of our prayerbook can shape belonging, resilience, and peace in community.

Dates: October 3, November 7, December 5, January 9, February 6, March 6
