People of the Book: Learning and Creative Lab (Summer Institute | In Person)

  • Wednesday, July 9, 2025
  • 11:00 AM to 2:30 PM
  • Fee: $75
  • Join us in person
  • Program Leader: Tamar Forman & Emma Levinson

Our study will be brought to life by hands-on workshops led by artist Emma Levinson. In these workshops, we’ll create a variety of hand-made books utilizing techniques that include, but are not limited to, Japanese stab binding, pamphlet stitch and accordion folds. We’ll explore some of the sewing and gluing techniques involved in bookmaking, in addition to traditional and experimental hardcover techniques. To finish off the study, we’ll explore some block printing and address other ways to embellish and fill the books we make.

This event is a part of Summer Institute 2025: Weaving Study, Making, and Meaning, a month of curated experiences, including learning, practice, and connection opportunities. Offerings include creative, experiential learning, off-site gatherings, and meaningful opportunities for learning and exploration. Engage at TBE, online and outside our walls, while building relationships with one another and TBE faculty! Click here to view a list of all Summer Institute programs.

We are deeply grateful to the family of Burton D. “Bud” Rose, M.D., who has underwritten the Summer Institute in loving memory of Bud, who was a lifelong teacher and student.
