Partakers Info Session: College Behind Bars Mentoring (Online)

The TBE-Partakers College Behind Bars Mentor Program offers TBE members the unique opportunity to change lives by mentoring incarcerated individuals working on their college degrees while in prison. Since 2017, dozens of TBE members have developed transformative, helping relationships with incarcerated mentees as they navigate the academic and personal challenges of pursuing higher education in the prison setting.

TBE and Partakers are currently seeking mentors to match with the latest (4th) cohort of twenty new students enrolled in the Emerson Prison Initiative, which will be starting in September, 2025!

Please join us to hear about Partaker’s powerful mentoring program and opportunities to support new Bachelor’s Degree students enrolled in the Emerson Prison Initiative (EPI), based at MCI Norfolk.

At the session:

  • Partakers Mentor Coordinator and EPI mentor Amy Benjamin will share details about Partakers Mentoring programs and the Emerson Prison Initiative.
  • You will have a chance to learn: What is involved in mentoring a College Behind Bars student? What is the time commitment? How do mentor teams work? What qualities or skills are you looking for in mentors? What kind of training and support is provided?
  • A former EPI College Behind Bars student will share his experience as a Partakers mentee.
  • Current and former TBE Partakers mentors will be on hand to share their experiences.

This program is for you if you are interested in becoming a College Behind Bars mentor or if you have questions and would like to learn more about the College Behind Bars Mentor Programs—there’s no commitment required to attend the training!
