About Eli
Hello TBE community, I am Eli Cohen, a 7th grader at Brown Middle School in Newton. Sports have always been my passion. I’ve watched every Patriots game since I was five. In addition to watching football, I play soccer for Newton and Brown Middle School, and I enjoy playing indoor soccer and basketball in the winter.
I live with my sister, Laney, who is ten – almost exactly two years younger than me – and my parents, Jason and Wendy. We also have two cats named Brady and Jewels (named after my two favorite Patriots, Tom Brady and Julian Edelman).
My favorite subject in school is History because I am fascinated by wars and ancient times. For my Bar Mitzvah service project, I volunteered at the Newton Food Pantry and am working with my family to create a climate change awareness group at TBE, named Eretz, which means “earth” in Hebrew. During the COVID shutdown, the planet thrived when humans stopped burning excessive amounts of fossil fuels. I realized that the way to help slow climate change is to make everyone aware of it, and encourage people to change small things one-by-one until eventually it has a big impact.
As a Bar Mitzvah, I am excited to lead the Havdalah service, and to move forward as a Jewish adult, taking on more responsibilities and helping others in need.
