Uncovering the Challah: The Religious & Culinary Story Behind the Braid (Online)

  • Thursday, May 26, 2022
  • 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM

  • Program Leader: Rabbi Vanessa Harper

The story of how challah traveled from its origins in ancient Israel to Shabbat dinner (and diner French toast) staple weaves together strands of religious, culinary, and cultural history across millenia. How did challah get its name? Why is it braided? Why do we cover it on the Shabbat table? What’s the deal with sprinkling on salt? Your curiosity will be satisfied, but you might leave hungry.
