What can Jewish wisdom and moral tradition teach us about how we understand and approach mental health? In this course, we will explore mental illness through the lens of compassion, justice, and sacred understanding. Topics such as addiction, involuntary commitment, and gender identity will be examined with care, respect, and ethical reflection. Together, we will engage in courageous conversations around how society defines mental illness and how Jewish values—including healing, dignity, and wholeness—can shape a more humane and inclusive approach.
While we will revisit some themes from last year’s Bioethics Through a Jewish Lens, no prior attendance is required. All are welcome to join this thoughtful journey.
Dates: October 30, November 6 & 13
This course follows a sequential structure, and participants are encouraged to attend all sessions. However, drop-ins are welcome at any point during the course. If you have any questions regarding participation, please contact the program leader.
