Stories from the Winter Walk: Understanding and Addressing Homelessness (In Person)

Learn more about the Winter Walk from John Lane, who has participated in the walk for years, both as a formerly homeless individual and as a staff member. Through John’s perspective, explore the realities of homelessness in Boston and how we can make an impact. He is very open to questions, so bring them!

About John Lane:

John is the Manager of Organizational and Educational Partnerships at Winter Walk. Both a passionate advocate for improving the circumstances of people experiencing homelessness in Greater Boston and the nation, as well as person who has been chronically homelessness in our city in the past, John has worked with many different organizations that minister to and address the needs of the unhoused community,

Prior to joining Winter Walk, John had been employed doing supportive housing work with one of Winter Walk’s partners, Pine Street Housing, and has previously worked for numerous years with the Boston Public Health Commission in Homeless Services, serving as a specialist in the harm reduction program of Boston’s largest emergency shelter. He has also has experience working in many other facets of homeless services/shelter (including Covid-era) operations for the City of Boston.

John has served in various volunteer capacities with the Winter Walk since our second Walk, as well as lending time and expertise to organizations such as the Oasis Coalition, Capuchin Mobile Ministries, and The Massachusetts Coalition for the Homeless, among others. He has also served on Boston zoning committees involved in the construction of supportive housing for individuals currently experiencing chronic homelessness. John lives in Charlestown.
