TBE’s Community Voice

One of the most surprising consequences of the COVID era, in which we have had to socially distance, is that I have become more connected than ever to my immediate family as well as to friends and extended family scattered around the globe. We are unbelievably fortunate that we have Zoom and FaceTime and other platforms and the technology and resources to support these platforms. As a result, I have connected multiple times and in meaningful ways to family and friends I typically see only occasionally and for short visits, and I have been able to meet family I never knew before, hear a variety of fascinating lectures, virtually visit faraway places, participate regularly in our temple services, listen to various outstanding musical ensembles, share in book clubs – and the list goes on and on. I know that many people have connected to people and places and the global community through technology during this period, and I suspect – and hope – that we will retain at least a portion of this technological connection even after COVID has passed.
