Back in 2004, TBE entered a team in the Men’s Shul Softball League (MSSL). The league is limited to men because there are Orthodox congregations that participate. MSSL was created to promote and carry out friendships among men of Jewish families through sports. This year the league has 46 teams in three divisions.

The original TBE team was renamed TBE 1 when more teams joined the league. At one point, five TBE teams participated; this year we have one. Bill Kahn and Jeff Turk have managed TBE 1 for several seasons. Rabbi Sisenwine has played on this team since its inception. TBE 1 won the championship six times over the years in the highest-level division and took possession of the Kiddush Cup. In 2018, TBE 3 won the championship in this division.

The players cover a wide range of ages, which promotes interactions among TBE members who would not normally get to know one another. The oldest player from TBE was me, Arthur Priver. I retired this year at the age of 75 (Tom Brady—eat your heart out).

David Sternburg, the pitcher for TBE 2 for more than ten years, feels that he has gotten to know other TBE members he never met before. He enjoys the opportunity to bond as part of a group of people who share similar interests. He has graciously hosted pool parties for his team.

The nine-game season runs from April through June, with playoffs extending into July. Come cheer us on. Or, come out and play next year.
