Yom Ha’atzmaut, Israel Independence Day, recognizes the establishment of the modern State of Israel when members of the provisional government read and signed a Declaration of Independence in Tel Aviv on May 14, 1948. It is observed on or near the 5th of the Hebrew month of Iyar on the Jewish calendar, which usually falls in April.
