Win-Win Volunteering: Virtual English Tutoring for Ethiopian Israelis
Come hear Marla Gamoran, the Executive Director of Skilled Volunteers for Israel, describe how her pandemic-launched English B’Yachad Program has matched 140+ tutors in North America and Israel with Ethiopian Israelis. The post-army Israelis are thrilled to have this valuable one-on-one opportunity to improve their English skills and enter the high-tech field. At the same time, the volunteers, such as our own TBE members, GA Merle, Susan Posner, and Judy Zorfass prize this opportunity to connect to and support such motivated learners.
This program reflects the Jewish value of tikkun olam and teaching/learning. It helps Ethiopian Israelis to learn English as a way to achieve social and economic success.
