The Torah of Civil Discourse (In Person)
- Monday, December 16, 2024
- 7:30 PM to 9:00 PM
- Join us in person
- Program Leader: Alison Kur and Vicky Rakov
We are living in challenging times. There are great divisions in our country, our communities, and even within our families. Judaism embraces the idea of honoring multiple perspectives and we can look to our ancient texts to find support as we navigate our contemporary lives. Join us as we explore lessons the weekly Torah portion teaches us about engaging in civil discourse. This four-class series will focus on takeaways from the Torah that can guide us in engaging in conversations across differences.
This course follows a sequential structure, but anyone is welcome to join at any point, or to drop in to any class. If you have questions regarding participation, please contact the program leader.
eLeMeNTs courses this year are organized in two curricular tracks: “Wrestling with Big Questions” and “Exploring Jewish Identity.” You can take courses all within one track to explore related concepts from multiple angles, or jump from one track to another based on what courses intrigue you. This course is part of the Wrestling with Big Questions track: applying Jewish wisdom to how we deal with conflicting values.
Dates: November 18, 25, December 9, 16
