Summer Institute: Hebrew Calligraphy
- Thursday, June 17
- 7:30 PM to 8:30 PM
- Program Leader: Rachel Jackson
What goes into writing a Torah? What materials are used? Do the letters need to look a particular way? This four part course will be an intro to the tradition of Hebrew ritual calligraphy, sofrut. We will discuss different Jewish scribal traditions around the world, how the materials for Torahs, tefillin and mezuzot are prepared, and we will dive into the basic principles behind Hebrew calligraphy. You will receive a kit that includes Torah ink, parchment, and a quill among other supplies. Registration is required by May 27 to receive a kit. Kit pickup will be at TBE.
Dates: Thursdays, June 17, 24, July 1, 8
