Reproductive Rights In Israel: The Dangerous Dance Between Religion, Politics, and the Jewish Womb
After the overruling of Roe v. Wade, reproductive rights is at the forefront of political and religious issues facing Americans. In Israel, reproductive rights and a women’s rights takes on a different and important meaning. What is the current situation of reproductive rights in Israel? Why is abortion not a significant issue in Israel and yet other rights of women are? What common concerns do we, as American and Israeli Jews, share and where do we differ? We will look at sources from the Bible to Ben Gurion, learn about fertility treatment coverage, reproductive rights, women’s rights, and abortions, and try to analyze the religious, political and traumatic viewpoints that came to create Israel’s unique situation.Sponsored by Committee for Reproductive Justice and Sisterhood.
