Peace Forward: Mass Coalition to Prevent Gun Violence (Hybrid)

Join the Mass Coalition to Prevent Gun Violence to honor our own Janet Goldenberg, cofounder and board president of the Coalition. During her nine year leadership, the Coalition has grown to include 120 organization members statewide. Her vision, collaborative efforts, and dedication have resulted in significant achievements—the 2014 gun laws, 2018 ERPO legislation, advocacy, education, funding and the building of the organization that now has a staff of three.

This celebration also enthusiastically welcomes the expertise and experience of Mark Scott, Director of the Division of Violence Prevention at the Boston Public Health Commission, who assumed the role of president on March 14.

Lisa Breit’s extraordinary and large quilts will be on view. One quilt, “Keep Your Thoughts and Prayers” is the artist’s response to mass shootings. The faces depict anguish, fear, rage, and loss. Along the border on one quilt are the names and dates of the US mass shootings as of the time of the completion of that quilt. Breit has explained that during the past few years, during the rise of Black Lives Matter, she has taken time, with her own Jewish community and on my own, for reflection and learning.

Donations of $50 are suggested, but any amount is welcome. No one will be turned away for lack of funds; registration for free tickets are available.
