Music lovers unite to learn more about music we know, discover new music, and enjoy a community of friends with musical interests. Join us on Zoom for a special Music Club series four Tuesdays in June. Scroll down for all class descriptions.

June 2: The International Side of Music with Art Gertstenfeld
Art Gerstenfeld will take us on a journey of the international side of music. We will be listening to and discussing Ladysmith Black Mambazo from South Africa in concert with Paul Simon. One piece we will listen to and discuss will be “Bridge Over Troubled Water.” If we consider coronavirus to be “troubled water,” this piece becomes timely.

June 16: Music of the Early 1950’s: Before Rock Became Pop with Marty Sleeper
Perry Como, Rosemary Clooney, Eddie Fisher, Teresa Brewer, and the singers of “Your Hit Parade” were just some examples of the pop music stars of the early classic doo-wop. Rock was also recorded although not yet making it to the national charts. Join us as we listen to and watch some examples of both sounds in the years before the big-time emergence of Rock & Roll.

June 23 & 30: Kander & Ebb: Come to our Cabaret! with Don Drourr
John Kander & Fred Ebb, writers of mega hits like Cabaret, Chicago, and Kiss of the Spider Woman took Broadway by storm in 1965. Their collaboration lasted 45 years and produced 13 musicals, several revues, and some major hits for some major stars. Join us as we explore the incredible mark they left on Broadway.
