Music Library

Music has been described as the language of the soul.  It is the heart and soul of Temple Beth Elohim and we believe in its power to transcend our souls and unite our spirits. We are blessed to have talented musicians who inspire us time and time again. Cantor Jodi Sufrin, our Cantor for over 30 years, leads us in song, prayer, healing and rejoicing. Noah Aronson joins us for High Holy Days and several Shabbat services throughout the year. Several years ago, Noah composed a Shabbat Menuchah service for our community; many of those prayer melodies have become our standards. Noah has most recently composed a CD entitled The Left Hand Side of the Page a rich work that highlights the poetry of the left hand side of our Mishkan Tefillah prayerbook.  Many of these compositions, too, have become our standards. Our accompanist Victor Cayres, who was recently awarded a doctorate in piano performance, is an award-winning pianist. Matt Stern shares his tremendous musical talent with our community in many ways.  On Sunday mornings, he trains and supervises a gifted group of our teenagers who teach music to our younger children.  He also directs our JAWS productions and our Adult Musical.  As a music director, he has nurtured some amazing talent in our community.

In addition to these members of our professional staff, we are proud to nurture the talents of very fine musicians within our community.  We have an excellent Adult Choir and two children's choirs.  Under the direction of Rabbi Josh Franklin, Cantor Jodi Sufrin, and Ben Hoadley we have assembled a remarkably talented group of teenagers who make up our Tefillah Band. They play for our TGIS services about once a month.

All affirm our love of music. Our services are filled with inspiring renditions of the prayers that draw from the past and present. Often, our congregants share their musical talents in Coffee Houses, Broadway revivals, folk concerts, drumming classes, to name just a few venues. We invite leading Jewish musicians to teach us and share their
gifts.
