Mitzvah Day

Sunday, May 20, 2012

For some, Mitzvah Day was the beginning of what we hope will be a life-long commitment to social action; for others it was a continuation of their ongoing tikkun olam efforts. In either case, May 20, 2012 was a special day.

At our 14th annual Mitzvah Day, hundreds of congregants of all ages came together to engage in Tikkun Olam, or repairing the world. We cooked meals, stuffed envelopes, made birthday kits, knitted shawls, collected books, entertained at nursing homes, made hygiene kits for children in Cambodia, helped two animal rescue organizations, assembled educational materials, made blankets for newborns, planted flowers and plants, rode and walked for charities, and participated in other important ways.

Habitat for Humanity, Birthday Wishes, Save a Dog, Rosie's Place, Boston Medical Center, Parent Child Home Program, The Falls at Cordingly Dam, Bristol Lodge, Stray Pets in Need, and Ronald McDonald House are just some of the many organizations congregants helped on Mitzvah Day. Whether you participated in a project, volunteered as a leader, led our service, set up and cleaned up the building, or donated money to help pay for the cost of Mitzvah Day, your efforts are much appreciated. You should feel truly proud of your contribution.

Thank you!
