TBE Immigration Justice Initiative
Out of the 4/28/2018 Shabbat Lunch Conversation on Immigration, we formed the TBE Immigration Justice Initiative. We are a group of TBE members who are passionate about immigration, and seek to affect change both locally and nationally around this issue. Called by our tradition, which commands us help the stranger, we refuse to stand idly by as we hear and see the plight of the stranger in our midst. We have identified specific areas of action through which we can make a difference: Tzedakah and Drives, Rallies/Protests, Accompaniment, Direct Support, Sanctuary, Advocacy and Learning/Reflection. See below for more information on how you can join us in this effort to repair our world.

On Sunday, March 17, the Immigration Justice Group (IJG) at TBE presented a fundraising concert by Noah Aronson and his band with all proceeds going to the Boston Immigrant Justice Accompaniment Network (BIJAN/ BEYOND bond and legal defense fund) which assists immigrants obtain their release from detention so they can be reunited with their families while awaiting processing of their asylum and other legal claims. With the support of several TBE families covering the cost of the concert, we were able to raise just under $13,000 in partnership with JCRC supporting our efforts. Some 350 people from TBE and the wider Jewish community enjoyed a program with great ruach; learned about the work of BIJAN; heard from a recently released immigrant detainee; gained a greater awareness of immigration issues; and made additional donations while committing to volunteer in our work! It was a great afternoon. Click here to view the words to “Wake Up, America, Wake Up!” performed at the concert.
