Shirei Haneshamah (Songs of the Soul)
It is known that music provides us all a connection to community and to our shared spirituality. It can enliven memories and bring pleasure, joy and delight to the listener. Music can reduce heart rate, give a sense of relaxation and a distraction from pain. This can be especially true for one who is experiencing life changes of aging, memory loss, disability and illness as well as to their family and caregivers.
Shirei Haneshamah is a group of volunteer singers who as part of the Caring Community at TBE offer to bring comfort in song to those in our community struggling with illness, disability, aging and the dying process. We currently sing for groups and individuals at Hebrew Senior Life at Roslindale, Newbridge on the Charles and and Orchard Cove Continuing Care Retirement Center on a semi regular basis. We will be welcoming new singers this fall and throughout the year. We rehearse together on Mondays twice a month and currently offer visits on Sunday mornings once a month or on call. It would be important to commit to at least one rehearsal each month. If you know of someone who would like such a visit or would like to volunteer with us, please contact: Liz Kopin MD, (508) 254 8484.
Previous experience singing with a group and confidence carrying a tune is helpful. Please join us!
