High Holy Days

Welcome to TBE's High Holy Day Information page.   Check back here regularly as we are updating frequently.

The High Holy Days are a glorious time at Temple Beth Elohim. We gather as a full community for services on Erev Rosh Hashanah, Rosh Hashanah morning (day one and day two), Kol Nidre and all day on Yom Kippur. We look deeply into our souls and our faith through prayer, we learn from our rabbis, and we are ennobled by the music of our cantors and congregational choir and musicians.

Our services are generally traditional but feature some special TBE moments. On the second day of Rosh Hashanah, it is our tradition to conclude the holy day with a lively Tashlich service on the banks of the Charles River in Newton Lower Falls. On Yom Kippur, we provide prayer and meditation opportunities throughout the day, even when formal services are not taking place. One such opportunity is our highly cherished Hour of Response, when three congregants speak on an aspect of their Jewish journeys. To conclude the 10-day period, we invite all children in our community to ascend the bimah to hear (or blow) the final blast of the shofar. We then gather for a congregational break-the-fast.
