A Note from Rabbi Joel Sisenwine

Rabbi Joel SisenwineWelcome!

We're glad that you've expressed interest in becoming a member of Temple Beth Elohim. Each year, people like you consider making TBE their spiritual, educational and social home. Some are young couples preparing for marriage, or families with small children looking for religious education. Some with grown children have a renewed interest in temple life. Still others are individuals, both young and not-so-young looking to share their Jewish journey with new friends. We welcome all who wish to celebrate Jewish life; families, singles and couples, LGBTQ Jews, interfaith couples and Jews by choice.

For all these reasons and many others, prospective members contact TBE. But why do increasing numbers of individuals and families join each year? Is it the rich tradition or the educational excellence? Perhaps it's the spiritual leadership, the commitment to social action or our caring community. Everyone has different reasons, but we come to the same conclusion: "I feel welcome at TBE," and so will you.

Temple Beth Elohim - TBE - as we often call ourselves, is a vibrant Reform Jewish congregation of 1250 families from over 40 towns in the Boston area and western Boston suburbs. We have a clergy team of three rabbis and two cantors who are actively engaged in the fabric of our community. We have a multi-generational, diverse community, including interfaith, LGBTQ, Jews of color, and single - and people join TBE at all stages of life.

TBE strives to be a warm, inclusive and sacred community, offering many ways to connect to Judaism. Our goal is to support members in shaping purposeful, joyous and peaceful lives, and in finding holiness and spirituality in the everyday. Our Friday evening Shabbat services, typically from 6:00-7:15 pm, are well attended by members of all ages, and are wonderfully participatory.

Temple Beth Elohim moved into its beautiful new building in December 2010, on the site of our previous building’s parking lot. We are grateful to TBE’s founders of 1948 whose names appear in the atrium of our current home. Today’s space reflects our roots and our values, open in architectural style to bring nature close, and allow young and old to share in the energy of daily activities. Come for a tour to learn more!
