Assistant Cantor

Dear TBE Community,Displaying

As many of you know, approximately one year ago, we began a nationwide search for an assistant cantor. After numerous resumes and several interviews, I am so excited to announce to our community that we have hired Shanna Zell as our chazzan sheini, our assistant cantor. I could not be more elated as Shanna is what I would call a "perfect match" for our congregation. Joel and I, along with the members of our interview team, felt from the very first interview that Shanna is not only a superb musician with a beautiful voice, she has a warmth, intelligence and kindness that make her such a good fit for us.

After an intense two-day site interview this past week, Shanna won the hearts of our search committee, our clergy team and professional staff, all of whom join me in feeling very blessed that she has chosen us. We are enormously grateful to our search committee co-chairs, Pam Norden and Neil Silverston.

While studying at Hebrew Union College, Shanna has served as a cantorial intern at Congregation Beth Elohim in Brooklyn. She will be ordained in May and will join our community in July.

We will have a few opportunities to meet Shanna before she officially begins. We will keep you posted. Most of all, I so much look forward to both partnering with her and serving as mentor.  It seems "bashert" that she moves from Beth Elohim to Beth Elohim!

I hope that you will join me in welcoming Cantor Zell to our congregation. I am very excited for her arrival.
