Lev Echad (One Heart)
Lev Echad is a program that reaches out to congregants at difficult times in their lives…when their activities and their connections to others have been limited by age, disability or life circumstances.
We are seeking additional volunteer pastoral visitors. In the ancient tradition of offering comfort and solace to those who are suffering or lonely in the community, the trained volunteers visit fellow congregants to ensure that they do not feel forgotten or isolated as time passes following bereavement or illness, and to reach out to those who may feel forgotten or who have grown apart from the TBE community. It is not only pastoral counseling, but an effort to understand where a person is emotionally, physically and spiritually, and to be there with them.
Volunteers receive monthly training and guidance from clergy, who offer group training based on sound pastoral practices, traditional Jewish texts and experiences. Training is designed to support the listening and awareness skills needed to be a pastoral visitor. All the participants agree this training is an occasion for personal growth. It opens the door to understanding others as well as ourselves so that each participant becomes more aware as a person, a family member and a Jew.
