BELY (Beth Elohim Local Youth is our senior youth group, open to everyone in grades 8-12. BELY holds events twice a month, including it’s annual Chanukah Carnival, cosmic bowling, local sports events, Dave & Busters, ski trips, shul-ins, ice skating and lounge hours. BELY is an active group in the temple community, and includes social action and social justice-related components in the majority of its events. BELY also runs educational programs, with themes including teen issues, Jewish identity, The Simpsons (religious and theological perspectives) and Mean Girls (peer pressure and social groups).
BELY also is a member of NFTY-Northeast, which is comprised of over 60 youth groups from Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, New York and Canada. NFTY-Northeast holds regional events once a month, which include conclavettes, shul-ins and dances, all of which are held at host congregations throughout the region. Institutes are five day-long events that combine educational, social and religious programming, and are held three times a year at URJ Eisner Camp in the Berkshires. All BELY members in grades 9-12 are able to attend regional events.
The BELY Board is an opportunity for BELY members to help plan and run BELY events, as well has represent the TBE Youth community at congregational events and programs. The BELY Board also helps run Rak Shabbat, an innovative and alternative worship experience for TBE Youth in grades 4-7 in conjunction with Temple Beth Elohim's Camping Initiative. BELY Board members also participate in leadership training throughout the year at various workshops and retreats.
